Oncology
When a patient has been diagnosed with cancer, the oncologist provides recommendations for treatment and after-care. Cancer treatment can consist of surgery (to remove a cancerous growth), chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy. The treatment regimen will depend on the type and stage of cancer, health status, weight and height of the patient. Counselling and emotional support are also important elements of treatment.
