Shingles (Herpes Zoster) is a viral infection that causes a painful rash or blisters on the skin. Itโs caused by the varicella-zoster virusโthe same virus that causes chickenpox. After recovering from chickenpox, the virus stays dormant in your body and can reactivate later in life as shingles. The rash often appears in a band-like pattern on one side of the body, causing severe discomfort and even long-term nerve pain.
